FAQs

What's the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreens?
Chemical sunscreens are formulated using a combination of organic chemicals that contain carbon, which act as UV filters. The active ingredients work by absorbing UV rays that hit the skin and converting them into heat, which is then released from the body. Mineral, or “physical” sunscreens use minerals such as Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide as their UV filter. Much of the information out there describes mineral sunscreens to work differently to chemical sunscreens, in that they reflect and scatter UV light. However, it’s important to note that this understanding comes from historical research when mineral particles were much larger. With new improvements in formulating mineral sunscreens (Micronised Zinc Technology) physical UV filters act in the same way as chemical UV filters, by absorbing UV light and converting them into heat.

What is Micronised Zinc Technology?
Micronised Zinc Technology, aka "non-nano", is a modern practice in formulating mineral, or Zinc Oxide only sunscreens. The term "micronised" refers to the size of the Zinc Oxide particles used in your sunscreen; not too large to leave a thick white cast and not too small to be considered a “nanoparticle”. This technology allows for better UVA protection and unlike older mineral sunscreen formulas, rubs in clear on the skin.

What is the difference between Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50+ and Sensitive Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+?
If you have sensitive skin, finding a sunscreen that doesn’t irritate your skin can be a hard task, so We Are Feel Good Inc. have provided two options for customers in hopes they find a product suitable for their skin. The biggest difference is that the Sensitive Sunscreen SPF 50+ uses chemical (organic) UV filters, whereas the Mineral SPF 50+ uses physical, or ‘mineral’ filters. Both are dermatologically tested, suitable for sensitive skin and for babies 6 months +. In the end, no one product is “better” or “healthier” than the other (despite what you may read on the internet). It all comes down to preference as to how each feels on the skin and how your skin may or may not react.

Are We Are Feel Good Inc. sunscreens water resistant?
Yes, all of their sunscreens are in line with the Australian and New Zealand Sunscreen Standard (AS/NZS) 2604:2021 for water resistant protection. It’s important to look at the individual water resistant protection claims for each product, as they can vary from 80 minutes to 4 hours. Please ensure you are following all usage instructions recommended by the TGA, despite any length of (water resistant) time claimed.

Do I need to use sunscreen everyday?
Applying sunscreen every morning should be an essential part of your daily routine. In fact, anytime the UV rating is above 3 (which it is in most parts of Australia every day of the year), you should be wearing an SPF. Up to 90% of skin aging and most skin cancers are caused by unprotected sun exposure. The damage is cumulative, and in Australia, can occur in as little as 10 minutes in the sun.
